We are Jamaicans... Not PNP or JLP
PATRICK HARRIS, Member of Parliament - Northern Trelawny
Sunday, September 06, 2009
WHETHER you voted or not, your member of parliament is there to serve you.
Once you live in the constituency, the MP is your political representative, and you have the right to make certain demands of him/her.
Although, quite arguably, some people expect too much from their MPs, in the Jamaican context their roles are unclear, particularly since they have no known job descriptions.
Over the next few months, the Sunday Observer will be visiting all 60 constituencies and asking Jamaicans to rate their MPs in our new "We are Jamaicans" series.
This week, member of parliament for Northern Trelawny Dr Patrick Harris is being spotlighted.
Dear Dr Harris,

Following lengthy discussions with residents in your consistency, Northern Trelawny, these four concerns below emerged as the most pressing.
1. Residents of Prospect in Duncans say the bad roads and inadequate water supply make their lives doubly difficult, and claim they are being victimised because the area supports the ruling Jamaica Labour Party.
2. Residents in Sherwood Content say the water supply system in their area needs to be improved. They say the area, which is the home of sprint star Usain Bolt, has been neglected and is not being capitalised on as part of the tourism product.
3. Vendors and residents of the Martha Brae area, which is a major tourist attraction, are calling for more to be done to market the spot.
4. Residents of Wilson Avenue and Logwood Valley in Wakefield say the water system which serves the communities needs to be connected properly.
Yours sincerely,
Alicia Dunkley
