Accused's sneakers appear to match impression left at murder scene

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

THE pair of sneakers removed from the feet of Lennox Swaby at his arrest in December 2006 appear to match a shoe impression left at the home of murdered Mandeville couple Richard and Julia Lyn, the court heard yesterday.

Detective Inspector George W Williams told jurors in the Home Circuit Court trial that he took the shoes from Swaby's feet on December 16, 2006, when the accused was brought to the Mandeville Police Station.

The logo at the bottom of Swaby's shoes was similar to that of the impression left at the Lyns' Battersea Avenue home. The impression was found at the home on December 10, 2006 when the Lyns were discovered missing.

Williams said Swaby neither agreed to nor denied a request for the shoes.

The cop also denied a suggestion by defence attorney Dr Randolph Williams that the shoes were kicked off Swaby's feet while he was face down on the floor at the station and a police officer was standing on him.

A new prosecution witness, a footwear expert, is scheduled to give evidence today.

Swaby and co-accused Calvin Powell, have been on trial since October 5 for the December 9, 2006 murder of the Lyns, whose bodies were found at the Martin's Hill landfill on December 29, 2006. Evidence was given that Powell had led the police to the bodies.

Several items were stolen from the Lyns' home, some of which were displayed for jurors yesterday.
