A Jamaican national was sentenced in a federal court yesterday to two and a half years in prison and three years supervised release after being found guilty of identity theft.
According to a report carried in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle newspaper 41-year-old Cleveland Valentine, a resident of Rochester, New York was convicted in December of false use of a Social Security number and aggravated identity theft.
Valentine overstayed his visitor’s visa and had been using a Delaware resident’s Social Security number to stay in the United States.
He was accused of using the Social Security number to get a New York driver’s license in the name of Dean Gray in a bid to remain in the country after his visa expired in 1998.
