THE Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) says the official count of ballots in the Portland Eastern by-election, which started yesterday, should be completed in three days.

The EOJ said, however, that the returning officer has up to seven days to complete the official count.

Counting, which is taking place at the Port Antonio High School, entails the manual counting of all ballots along with the checking of the poll books.

In the preliminary count Thursday evening, Jamaica Labour Party candidate Ann-Marie Vaz polled 9,917 votes, ending the 30-year hold on the constituency by the People's National Pary, whose candidate, Damion Crawford, pulled in 9,611 votes.
