OMAR “Best” Collymore, the man that was being sought in connection with the murder of Simone Campbell-Collymore, his wife, is expected to be charged with two counts of murder, the Constant Spring police have reported.

In fact, while speaking to the Jamaica Observer yesterday, the police alleged that Collymore was the “mastermind” behind the businesswoman's death.

Collymore was arrested by police officers in St Elizabeth yesterday.

“Based on investigations, I am confident he is the mastermind,” Superintendent Paul Thomas told the Observer yesterday.

Campbell-Collymore, 32, and taxi operator Winston Watson, 36, were shot dead about 4:00 pm on January 2 on Stanley Terrace in Red Hills, St Andrew.

Yesterday, Superintendent Thomas said Collymore was arrested during an operation at a guest house in St Elizabeth about 2:00 am.

Collymore's capture came on the heels of a warrant that was issued for his arrest on Tuesday. The police said on Tuesday that after “intensive investigations”, Collymore and others were identified as co-conspirators in the double murder.

The police had also revealed that two people were already in custody in connection with the double murder and that other suspects were being sought for questioning.

“We are guided by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and now we are ready to charge Mr Collymore for two counts of murder, and this is so due to the extent of the investigation that was carried out and the level of evidence that has been gathered so far,” the superintendent of police explained.

Collymore, who is said to be a United States citizen, was recently taken into custody after he was spotted at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, attempting to leave the island.

The Observer has learnt that at the time, there was not enough evidence to charge him so he was released.
