Two alleged gunmen held in botched robbery in HWT

TWO alleged gunmen are now in police custody and a third on the run after a botched robbery attempt in the busy Half-Way-Tree area of the capital city on Saturday.
According to the police, at about 5:00 pm the three men, who were travelling in a white Nissan Sunny motor car, held up a woman in the vicinity of the Holy Cross Catholic Church and robbed her of an undetermined sum of money.
A plain-clothed policeman, who witnessed the robbery, challenged the robbers. In their bid to escape, the robbers sped off towards the Half-Way-Tree and Hagley Park roads intersection -- breaking the one-way and causing anxious moments for frightened motorists who made every effort to elude the speeding car.
The hoodlums did not get far, however, as more cops joined in the chase and the gunmen were forced to abandon the vehicle in the middle of Hagley Park Road, in the vicinity of the York Plaza.
They tried to run from the scene. However, the persistence of the police and a brave passer-by paid off.
Alleged eyewitnesses said one of the robbers was held in a chokehold by a "white man".
"The white man must know some martial arts because him hold down the thiefing boy in the road and a police have to come take him off the boy. The boy couldn't move one bit," a woman on the scene told the Observer.
Another robber was collared by the police but a third, whom the police believe may have been shot, and is considered by them to be armed and dangerous, managed to escape.
The two thieves were handcuffed and carted off to the Half-Way-Tree Police Station where they were up to last night.
The incident caused a traffic pile-up as vehicles coming from Hope Road onto Hagley Park Road, were diverted down Half-Way-Tree Road, and to Balmoral Avenue.
As detectives scoured the abandoned car for clues and collected spent shells, onlookers could be overheard expressing their disgust at the robbers' actions.
"Them shoulda dead! These dirty boys want to have money and things and don't want to work for it. Jamaica can do without scum like them!" one woman said as she peered from behind the police yellow tape.
A police sergeant, who kept order on the scene, said police from the St Andrew Central Division would be on the lookout for criminals and promised to use the full force of the law to punish them.
"This is a busy commercial area and we know that criminals come from all over to commit crimes in this division, but we have news for them: the police are aware of your evil intentions and we will be coming for you," the cop said.

Jay Brown said 'most Jamaicans' not 'Jamaicans', therefore he did not insinuate that the man was not Jamaican ...... read people read. Jumping to conclusions is a precursor to many disagreements.

Just a clarification on the "white man" issue. I never said he was not a Jamaican.
People made the assumption that because I said most "Jamaicans" means that I believe this guy was not Jamaican.
If the guy was Indian and I said, the same thing, the conclusion that would have been drawn would have been very different.
So its boils down to our own interpretation of what the writer said vs what the writer actually said.

Tony Brown thanks for the eye-on-the-scene report. Because you have done so well, I’m going to commence a campaign for you to replace the late, Andrew Price @ Hot 102. Nuff respect boss! Jay Brown, you have severely overcooked it this time. Trust mi brethren, yuh nuh believe none a wha yuh jus seh. Respect to you too blood!

Sorry...my previous post should read " a whole HEAP a white people live in Jamaica who are Jamaicans".
We cannot just assume that since the article mentions a white person he must not be Jamaican, like Jay Brown did. Jamaicans of all colour and class would like to see crime levels reduced. Jay's comment give the impression that Jamaicans are just fine with the crime siuation, but he is so wrong in his assumption.

Big-up di white man, yardies need the white man head on dem shouldders.
What Jamaican for justice ( human right people) have to with a wicked white man held one thief for the police and the police caught another, this is just pure not understanding.

I was there peeps and the white dude was actually jamaican. The robbers were actually being chased on foot by about half dozen guys and other peeps joined in as they shouted hol' him hol him! One of the robbers ran towards tastee and a pedestrian ( black man - not that it matters) kicked away his feet and the white guy( who seemed related to the lady who was robbed) jumped on him and gave him a rahtid submission hold! I didnt even knw the guy shooting @ the car was a plainclothes policeman until it ended as I thought shit he's gonna kill the old dude( who turned out to be one of the damn tief dem!) in the car as he was reversing and trying to get away as peeps were running for cover. He was more shooting the engine and tires tho! Hawkeye actually reached the scene b4 the regular po po but they we'rent far behind. All in all kudos to citizens, black and white as well as police and security.. well done

These Criminals shouldnt worry too much they will be given bail to continue to their crime spree and the police will lose the files and they will be set free due to the intervention of the "Jamaicans for Justice" or if they are unlucky they will be be found guilty and then given suspended sentences.

BTW. Teach me grammar guru's. Can someone be alleged? Or is someone alleged to have done something? I would think an allegation has to do with a deed or act purported to be done and not be aligned with a person.
Anyway who cares, while I am at it let me congratulate this alleged "whiteman", and the supposed, police.
3/15/2010
Well done good and faithful servants. Citizens and law enforcement agents, we are proud and prepared to fight this monster called CRIME. Together WE CAN.
3/15/2010
I think teh "whiteman" was Bruce Golding. LOL.
Seriously though, If this had happened a few further blocks down bordering communities with a garrison mentality, the ragged cardboard placards would be out by now declaring their innocence. Jamaicans for justice would also be contacting their overseas human rights bredrens.
3/15/2010
Well done, police and citizen!
BTW, Jay Brown, what clue in the story led you to assume that the white man was not Jamaican? A no whole head a white people live a Jamaica, who are Jamaicans?
3/15/2010
Well Done , don't give up we can get Jamaica back to what it use to be, Bruce cant do its us as citizens have to take charge along with the help of the police .
3/15/2010
Good job.
3/15/2010
Congrats to this "whiteman", most Jamaicans would have simply allowed the thieves to run by them as " dem nuh want to be in nuttin".
Hope these scumbags get a long sentence.
