WHITEHOUSE, Westmoreland — Beaches Ocho Rios' Photoshop supervisor Jardine Vassell walked away as the winner of the 10th Ultimate Team Member for the Sandals/ATL Group during the company's glitsy annual Ultimate Award Ceremony and Dinner held at Sandals South Coast Thursday night.

Vassell came out ahead of the 26 nominees from the group which comprises Sandals, Beaches and Grand Pineapple Resorts across the region; ATL Automotive Limited, ATL Automotive Car Rental, Appliance Traders Limited, the Jamaica Observer, and Island Routes Caribbean Adventures.

She not only pocketed a cash award of US$20,000, but also the coveted Ultimate Team Member trophy; luxury-included, all-expenses-paid trip for two to an overseas Sandals or Beaches property with an exclusive private jet round-trip transfer to the destination of choice, champagne service, luxury ground transfers; as well as a plethora of VIP resort experiences.

Not to be left out, all nominees were treated to gifts of engraved sterling silver bracelets and a week of activities, including tours to the group's various head offices in Kingston, a day of adventure at Jamwest Adventure Park, among other things.

Nominees were assessed by various criteria, including team spirit, training hours, attendance record, ambassadorial qualities, and community and environmental stewardship.

Beaming and emotional, Vassell, who joined the Beaches Ocho Rios team in 2005, explained that she has now lost all interest in becoming a nurse which was once her ambition but was thwarted because of her inability to pay the fees.

“I love nursing, but I can tell you that Beaches Ocho Rios is my home and my new goal is to become a Kids Camp Manager,” Vassell shared with the audience after she was announced as the winner by compères, Marsha-Ann Donaldson-Brown, Sandals' director of weddings and romance and Weston Haughton.

“This is an overwhelming moment for me right now. The fact that I have been named the Ultimate Team Member for the entire group is a rewarding feeling. This should be an eye opener for everybody and a reminder that you're always on stage and you don't know who is watching you so always put your best foot forward. I am grateful for this opportunity I have gotten from Sandals Resorts International and I will treasure it dearly. Thank you to the chairman and deputy chairman and my team at Beaches Ocho Rios.”

The event, which was streamed live to all resorts and companies in the group, saw previous winners in attendance.

Noting that with a 14,000-strong workforce, the organisation is the largest employer of private sector labour in the entire region, deputy chairman of the Sandals/ATL Group Adam Stewart reminded the team members that they are all appreciated and special.

“Everyone of us in this room is unique. And everyone of us has something inside of us that is magic,” Stewart stated.

“It is a simple fact that everyone of us has given at least one extraordinary gift by the Almighty.”

He also charged team leaders to identify and inspire members to do what they are best at.

“Work is a reality of life. So how terrible it would be if you didn't enjoy doing what you do? So if we can establish that we all have magic in us and we all have to go to work, it's the duty of leadership in everyone of our group enterprises to find a way to ensure that you are in the job that is common and paired with what you are extraordinary in doing, so that when you wake up in the morning you love going to work,” Stewart remarked.

“If it is that you love doing what you do and you can be the absolute best at what you do, you will be extraordinary in what you do. And when you multiply that by 14,000 people, ladies and gentlemen you have the most powerful company in the western hemisphere. To me, that is what this has become. The journey that we are on here is about service excellence.”

Another highlight of the night was the entertainment package which featured by a performance reggae crooner Romain Virgo.
