PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Security officials are in the process of investigating reports that a Trinidadian woman has been sentenced to death by an Iraqi court.

The report first surfaced on the news agency Arab News under the headline “Foreign women sentenced to life in prison for joining IS (Islamic State)”.

The name of the woman has not been released.

According to media outlet CNC3, when contacted, Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi said he only learnt of the sentencing and promised to make enquiries.

Meanwhile, the local Islamic community says there is need to act urgently as the Iraqi government has sentenced several foreign women this year.
