NWC tightens water restrictions
Tuesday, February 09, 2010
THE National Water Commission yesterday imposed further restrictions in the Corporate Area as its supply systems dip lower.
Effective yesterday, Karachi, Long Mountain, Mountain View and surrounding areas, Liguanea, Mona Heights, August Town, Old Hope Road, Cross Roads, Hope Road and surrounding areas would only be getting water on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays between 4:00 am and 8:00 am and between 4:00 pm tand 8:00 pm.
Hope Pastures and its environs, meanwhile, will get water on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 4:00 am to 12:00 noon.
Beverly Hills will be provided with water on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 6:00 am to 10:00 am, and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, while Gordon Town, Tavern, Kintyre and Hope Flats will only be provided with water on Thursdays from 4:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Elletson Flats and surrounding communities will get their turn on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 4:00 am to 8:00 am.
The NWC said customers in Lower Jacks Hill, Cherry Gardens, Barbican and sections of Millsborough who are served by the Constant Spring system will receive water daily between the hours of 4:00 am and 2:00 pm.
Restrictions in Havendale and the municipality of Portmore, the NWC said, will remain in effect. Sections of Portmore, the commission said, will have no water or low water pressure from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm on weekdays, while sections of Havendale will be without water or experience low water pressure from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, also on weekdays.
The NWC urged its customers to store water and practise careful conservation of the available supplies as trucking will only now be carried out on a prioritised basis for hospitals, health centres, schools, public institutions and communities without water for a prolonged period because of the drought.
Customers who purchase water from private providers were encouraged to ensure that the water purchased is from a reputable and sterilised source.
"Customers are also being encouraged to make sure that their methods of water collection, storage and usage are safe and hygienic," the NWC said.
