Thumbs up for Essex Valley Athletics Meet

NAIN, St Elizabeth – The 45th Essex Valley Sports Council Athletics Meet held last Thursday at Alpart Sports Club is being described by organizers, JISCO Alpart Jamaica and the Alpart Essex Valley Sports Council, as a resounding success.

“Support from non-athletes, parents and teachers was phenomenal, and all patrons were treated to high competition standards, musical entertainment, and an incident-free day,” a news release said.

More than 1300 student athletes, coaches, teachers, track officials and spectators attended the Alpart Sports Club in Nain for the event, the release said.

Bethlehem All Age School were crowned champions of the primary school (junior) category, ending with 134 points. Bull Savannah Primary, Austin Primary, New Forest Primary and Goshen All Age School followed, rounding off the top five teams.

Twenty five primary and preparatory schools in Alpart's operating areas participated.

In the senior category, New Forest High School emerged as winners followed by Nain High School and Manning Child Care Facility (boys' home). Others in the senior category were new entrants B B Coke High, Cross Keys High and Winston Jones High School.

The meet was sponsored by JISCO Alpart Jamaica to the tune of $350,000.
