Catherine Hall All-Stars seek revenge against Holland

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Fresh from their nail-biting 66-64 win over Lucea Flames last Saturday, Catherine Hall All-Stars take on a the well-rested Holland Saints in their second-round Western Basketball Association (WBA) Elite Basketball League (EBL) at the Montego Bay Cricket Club today, starting at 6:15 pm.

Holland Saints won their first-round game 81-68 and the hope now is to complete the double over the former champions as they battle for places in the top four.

Catherine Hall are expected to be back in action again on Saturday when the league continues with three games, at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, taking on Sav-Elite Titans in the first game set to start at 4:15 pm.

Cornwall Courts Chargers, who got their first taste of victory last Saturday, take on Inner-City Avalanche in their game at 6:00 pm, followed by defending champions Granville Jaguars against Lucea Flames.

Last Saturday, Catherine Hall All-Stars were taken to the limit by the ever-improving Lucea Flames, who led by five points, 47-42, going into the final quarter and were up by two points with just over a minute to go in the game.

Catherine Hall led 16-12 after the first quarter and 30-23 at half-time, before Lucea flipped the script in the third quarter.

Dwayne Johns had a double-double for All-Stars with 10 points and 10 rebounds, but it was Michael Schloss with his 21 points who made the difference.

Goyan Malcolm scored 19 points and Jermaine Rerrie grabbed 12 rebounds.

Three players had double-doubles for Lucea — Sheldon Myrie scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds, Sherwin Gilzine scored 15 points and had 17 rebounds, and Jvon Calderon had 10 points and 19 rebounds.

Defending champions Granville Jaguars continued their cruise, winning their 10th straight game spanking Inner-City Avalanche 74-45, thanks to a big third quarter, as they raced to the maximum of 20 points, while Cornwall Courts Chargers scored their first win by beating latecomers Sav-Elite Titans, while Catherine Hall All-Stars managed to just hold off Lucea Flames by two points, 66-64.

Granville's Levar Rose led all scorers with 19 points as they led 12-7 after the first quarter and 26-20 at half-time, before a big third quarter saw them increase the lead to 27 points, 53-26, after which they cruised to victory.

Andre Hayles also scored 10 points for Granville Jaguars as Peter Reid grabbed 12 rebounds.

Fabian Julian had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds for Avalanche, while Shaqueal Benti scored 15 points and Damian Smith scored 12 points.
