PETERSFIELD, Westmoreland — For the first time in the history of the County of Cornwall Athletics Association (COCAA) Western Cross Country Championships, all six age groups will run the same distance at today's event to be hosted by Petersfield High, starting at 9:30am.

Previously, there were four different distances being contested, starting with the Under-14 girls, and getting progressively longer all the way up to the Under -19 boys' division.

The decision was however taken at the recent COCAA planning meeting held at Godfrey Stewart High, for all the age groups, Under-14 girls and boys; Under -16 girls and boys, and Under -19 girls and boys to run the same 5K distance.

The event will kick off the western high schools' track and field season, which will continue with development meets next month and January, ahead of Western Championships set for late February.
