Rusea's High School will host the County of Cornwall Athletics Association (COCAA) First Chance Meet this Saturday, scheduled to start at 9:00 am, after the regular hosts Herbert Morrison, were forced to give it up this year.

Herbert Morrison hosted the traditional season opener, but were unable to do so this year because of heavy rains and flooding in Montego Bay, which resulted in a setback to the preparation of the track at the school in Bogue.

Stephen Smith, president of COCAA, confirmed with the Jamaica Observer West this week that they were expecting a good turnout of schools.

“We have had a positive response to the meet,” Smith said on Tuesday.

“We have had 15 entries so far, but we expect by Thursday [today] to have at least 10 more schools, and we are expecting good competitions.”

There will be competition in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 3,000m and 5,000m events as well as shot put and discus throw, Smith said.

He added that the 200m would be restricted to Class 4 girls only.
