ROSE HALL, St James — Ambassador of Spain to Jamaica Josep Maria Bosch Bessa will deliver the keynote address at the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) Yello Expo 2017 opening ceremony at the Montego Bay Convention on Friday, October 13, as the chamber continues to build on the tradition of featuring notable speakers at its biennial trade show, the largest in western Jamaica.

The three-day trade show, now in its 16th staging, will showcase the best of Jamaica's goods and services, to the western region.

Ambassador Bessa, a career member of Spain's senior foreign services is now in the third month of his tour of duty in Jamaica and is an outstanding member of the diplomatic corp, entering the service in 1982.

Prior to his appointment as Ambassador of Spain to Jamaica, Bessa served as consul general of Spain in Andorra de la Vella. The career diplomat, with a background in law, also had overseas assignments in Equatorial Guinea, Belgium, London, the Dominican Republic, France, and the United Nations in Geneva.

The ambassador will declare the expo open and tour the creative exhibits from Jamaica's tourism industry, which has had significant investments from Spanish interests in recent times. There will also be exhibits from manufacturing, financial, creative, BPO, energy, and agriculture sectors.

“We are honoured to have Ambassador Bessa addressing Expo 2017, at time when the Spanish investors, the second largest in the island, continue to deepen and widen their interests in Jamaica, even beyond tourism,” said Expo 2017 co-chairman, Brian Brown.

Brown noted that the ambassador is showing keen interest in Jamaica's continued development as chairman of the Spanish Jamaica Foundation, which only recently joined with private interests in Montego Bay on an educational initiative.

He stated: “Expo 2017 is more than just a showcase of creative exhibits, as it is also geared towards presenting practical solutions to potential and existing business operators, especially through its business seminars and consultation sessions facilitated by JAMPRO”.

The Expo 2017 business seminars will this year focus on Youth in Business, MSME, Tourism and the Creative Industries.

Brown said the business engagement sessions are useful tools for persons interested in capitalising on their entrepreneurial spirit, especially millennials, whom he encourages to explore the myriad business opportunities, in light of limited employment options.

The MBCCI Yello Expo 2017 is supported by Yello Media Jamaica, Wards Power Tools, JPS, Fidelity Motors, National Supply, DeWalt, Billy Craig Insurance Brokers, Life Call Medical Service, Montego Bay Convention Centre, Margaritaville, Jamaica Observer, Power 106, TVJ, RJR 94, Mello FM, and others.
