Honours — Smith has won Jamaica’s highest honour by an athlete in the multi-discipline decathlon, earning a silver medal at the 2007 IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan where he set a national record 8,644 points. In July of the same year he won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He also claimed silver at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. He won the top title at the 2011 NACAC Championships.
