Honours  — An outstanding junior at Calabar high School, Smikle qualified for his first Olympic Games after throwing an Olympic ‘A’ standard 67.12m at the national trials in June. Smikle won a bronze medal at the 2009 World Youth Championships in Italy and was seventh in the World Junior Championships final in Moncton in 2010.
