KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson won her swim-off this afternoon beating Canada’s Tera Van Beilen into second.
Atkinson clocked 1minute 06.79 seconds, while Van Beilen clocked 1 minute 07.73 seconds.
Atkinson was forced into the swim-off after a dramatic tie in her semi final earlier today with Van Beilen in a time of 1 minute 07.48.
This is third time that Jamaica has qualified for an Olympic swimming final.
Andrew Phillips went to the final in the 200m Individual Medley at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles and Janelle Atkinson in the 400m freestyle four years ago in Beijing, China.
