Ecuador’s Quinonez wins 200m heats over Spearmon

  KINGSTON, Jamaica — America’s best hope at a medal in the 200m, Wallace Spearmon, had to run hard to qualify in second for a semifinal berth this morning.

Spearmon ran 20.47 but was beaten by Ecuador’s Alex Quinonez who ran a national record of 20.28.

Japan’s Shinji Takahira (20.57) was third.
