KINGSTON, Jamaica — Defending Olympic champion Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce kicked off Jamaica's golden jubilee weekend celebrations with a gold medal in the women's 100m. It was the perfect 50th birthday present which is expected to be completed with a similar victory in the men's equivalent tomorrow.

Fraser-Pryce became the third woman in history and the first non-American to repeat in the Olympic 100 metres after her historic win in Beijing, China four years ago.

Dubbed 'the Pocket Rocket', Fraser-Pryce flew out of the blocks and held off strong challenges from American Carmelita Jeter with a season's best of 10.79  and compatriot Veronica Campbell-Brown (10.81) to win in a time of 10.75.

American Tiana Madison was fourth ahead of her countrywoman Allyson Felix. Madison and Felix both posted personal bests of 10.85 and 10.89 respectively

Trinidadian Kelly Ann Baptiste was sixth.

The Ivory Coast's Murielle Ahoure and Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria were seventh and eighth respectively.
