Reno soar to top of Western Confed Super League

WHITEHOUSE, Westmoreland — Former champions and last season's beaten finalists Reno FC have taken over the lead in the Captain's Bakery & Grill/ Charley's JB Rum Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation Super League after a 2-1 win over promoted Sandals Whitehouse on Sunday.

The win was Reno's third of the season, which pushed them to 10 points, two more than Holland United who drew for the second straight round after opening the competition with back-to-back wins.

Promoted Montego Bay Boys Club are in the top three for the first time after blanking last-placed Duanvale United 2-0, also on eight points, one more than Norwood Strikers, who hammered former champions Village United 5-0.

Meanwhile, the competition takes a break for the Christmas and New Year holidays before resuming on January 5.

At Crocs Land field on Sunday, Denmark Gillings' fourth goal of the season, as time ran out in regulation, gave Reno the win that put them on top of the points table.

Schoolboy Melvin Blair had given Reno the lead in the 46th minute with his second goal of the game before Delroy Davis levelled the scores for Sandals in the 69th minute.

Holland had a chance to at least match Reno's points on Monday afternoon, but played out a 0-0 draw with Granville FC at Sam Sharpe Teachers College.

Androcle Poyser scored for the third straight game on Sunday to lead Montego Bay Boys Club to a 2-0 win over Duanvale FC at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.

Poyser broke a first half 0-0 tie when he scored in the 54th minute as Lovel Jonas scored a second goal in time added on.

Roshane Reid shot to the top of the goal-scoring table with his fifth in two games, scoring a hat-trick for Norwood Strikers to beat Village for the second straight time.

Reid's first goal in the 29th minute gave the St James team the lead at half time before and own goal on the 45th-minute mark gave them a 2-0 lead at the break.

Reid added his second in the 47th minute before Kamal Smith made it 4-0 in the 84th, but they had time for Reid to score the season's first hat-trick, completing it in the 90th minute.

Defending champions Wadadah FC secured their first win of the season, edging promoted Lucea FC 1-0 at the UDC field on Monday. Schoolboy Vially Donaldson scored the winner in the 88th minute.

In another game, Savannah SC drew their third straight match when they were held 1-1 by Tomorrow's People at Frome Sports Club.

Ron Daley's third goal of the season, in the 77th minute gave Savannah SC the lead, but Damion Rankine equalised for Tomorrow's People in the 82nd minute.
