LLANDILO, Westmoreland - BEACHES Negril made sure their first season in the Westmoreland Football Association's Captain's Bakery and Grill Major League was a memorable one, as they swept all three titles on their way to beating Petersfield FC 2-1 in last week's final played at the Llandilo playing field.

Despite playing with 10 men, Beaches Negril came from a goal down late in the game to clinch the title and book their place in next season's Western Confederation Super League. They are the third team and second first-timers into the Confederation, joining Salt Marsh United of Trelawny and Violet Kickers of St James, as western parish champions.

They also received the $100,000 first prize and the Captain's Bakery and Grill trophy.

It was the second time this season Beaches Negril were beating Petersfield FC in a final, after their 5-3 penalty kicks win in the first end-of-round final at the same venue in March.

Two months later, Beaches also won the second end-of-round final, hammering Three Miles River 5-0, scoring three goals in the first 15 minutes of the game to knock the fight out of their opponents early.

In the final last week, Petersfield FC took the lead in the 66th minute, but defender Julian Richards equalised four minutes later after the Petersfield FC goalkeeper Anthony Hamilton fumbled a shot from Richards into his

own goal.

Beaches Negril then went down a man after Rayan Smith was shown the red card, but another defender Desmond Montaque scored the winner in the 90th minute.

In the semi-finals, which were played over two legs, Beaches Negril beat Golden Touch 4-2 on penalty kicks after the teams had played out a 1-1 draw over both legs and extra-time and failed to break the deadlock.

Petersfield FC had a 4-1 aggregate win over Three Miles River, winning the first leg 2-0 then drawing the return leg 2-2.
