MONTEGO BAY, St James — A Kingston man who was held at the Sangster International Airport after he had dropped off a British woman who was held with cocaine in her luggage, was denied bail when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court last week.

Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong Small denied bail for the 39- year-old man after the prosecution opposed bail arguing that they had doubts about the man's identity, as well as his address.

It was heard the man went by two different names, presenting a copy of a birth certificate in the name of Christopher Whittaker, while holding a drivers licence in the name of Wayne Patterson.

The police also claimed that the man gave them two different addresses and that he has a British passport. The man, however, denied that the passport was his.

He is facing further charges in Kingston after police went to a house in Havendale where they reportedly found 3.5lbs of cocaine, 8lbs of ganja and over 500 pieces of crack cocaine.

The man was held on February 2 after a British resident, Chilachika Ward, was held with drugs and gave the police information that led to his arrest while he was on the airport property.

Ward who is also in police custody was held with 3lbs of cocaine in bags of coffee in her suitcase at the Sangster International Airport.

Attorney Stacy Young who was holding for Michael Howell in court last week, told the court in her bail application that the accused had told her he had allowed the woman to use his house in Kingston after she got into trouble and was evicted from another apartment she had occupied.

The court also heard that the accused man had driven the woman around while in Kingston and she had paid for the petrol for him to drive her to Montego Bay to catch her flight to London.

Both the man and Ward are due to return to court on March 25 when the charges against them will be mentioned.
