Milo to continue incentive programme for western-based schools
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Milo, the title sponsors for the Western Relays, is set to continue their Western Initiative, a programme that benefits high schools in the western region that produce athletes for national track and field teams.
The programme which started last year, sees a pool of $200,000 being shared between the schools from which athletes are selected.
At Tuesday’s media launch of the 39th staging of the Milo Western Relays at Holy Trinity in Westgate, St James, the sponsors presented their incentive cheque.
Bonuses are disbursed depending on the number of athletes per school.
Last season, St Elizabeth Technical led the way with nine representatives from the 15 athletes who were selected from five western-based schools.
Petersfield High and Green Island had two each, with Cornwall College and Rusea’s having one each.
The Western Relays will be held on February 11 at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
According to Meet Director Ray Harvey, another exciting meet is expected with all the teams that won events last year, returning to defend their titles.
