Ocho Rios, St Ann — Councillor for the Beecher Town division in St Ann Ian Bell said he is calling on the National Water Commission (NWC) to "get rid of their sluggish behaviour and move to have water returned to the residents in the division".
During the monthly sitting of the St Ann Parish Council on Thursday, September 12, Bell lamented that the entire division served by the NWC was without water.
"Not even one per cent," the councillor complained.
He said five pumps were down in the parish and blasted the NWC for its ineffectiveness in serving the people.
Bell complained, too, that the commission trucks water to communities which are affected infrequently and that they dole out the commodity only along the main roads, essentially leaving people who live in other areas high and dry.
This is "woefully inadequate", he said.
Promises have been made that the Thachfield pump would be fixed today, he revealed.
The councillor, however, strongly stated that he would not accept any promises from the NWC, only speedy actions to serve the people who have been without water for weeks, some for an entire month.
