Reverend Seaton Wilson creating his legacy through the written word

MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Intent on playing a role in imparting spiritual food and leaving a legacy, Reverend Seaton Wilson recently launched his latest book in this south central town.

The small gathering at First Assembly of God Church on Newleigh Road was treated to excerpts from the publication -- Reign in Your Domain — and a perspective of the content from different speakers.

Sean Graham, an educator and a member of the church, said that human beings are "finite versions of God" on a quest to find their true identity.

"The real problem in education is self-identity and self-image. I recommend this book to the minister of education, policy-makers, parents and students. It will assist in creating an education system which produces champions," he said.

According to a short biography read at the launch, for more than 32 years Wilson has served in various ministerial capacities.

His experiences include national education director and general secretary of the Assemblies of God Fellowship in Jamaica, Bible College lecturer and academic dean, radio and television speaker, religious columnist and conference/crusade and seminar speaker in Canada, the United States of America and 19 Caribbean islands.

He is currently a senior pastor at First Assembly of God Church in Christiansted, St Croix.

"There is a popular saying that 'knowledge is power'," Wilson writes in his introduction to the book. "However, power is not inherent to any type of knowledge. Rather, it comes from truthful knowledge, which has various forms and impact. Ultimate knowledge, which relates to time and eternity, is the knowledge with the greatest effect on people's lives in matters both temporal and eternal...We must know how to apply that knowledge so we can be what we ought to be and therefore do what we ought to do for the well-being of individuals and society.

"My main motivation in writing this book is to impart knowledge in order to inspire readers to fulfil the creative purpose of God. The pages that follow hold important truths. Their value will be determined by each reader's understanding, acceptance and application of them."

He encouraged members of the audience at the launch to document their thoughts.

"God wants people to leave a legacy. Even when you are dead the book will live on," he said.

Reverend Wilson is also the author of Soar Like an Eagle, Reign Like a King, Three Beloved Enemies and Great Thoughts for Thinking Minds.

He told the Jamaica Observer Central that he will soon be releasing his fifth book -- The Essence of the Ideal Society.
