Leave it to Jamaicans to prove that the fourth-annual Diamond Mile can compete with Royal Ascot and the Kentucky Derby! The well-planned and orchestrated event was attended by horse racing aficionados, captains of industry, members of the diplomatic corps, politicians and members of the horse racing fraternity. The exciting race day lived up to its promise of being a “contest of prestige and power”.

The Caymanas Park infield was brimming with well-dressed individuals, many of whom planned their outfits months in advance. Of course, there were stunning fascinators, headpieces and wide-brimmed hats! Among the couture and custom pieces were healthy doses of smart high-street labels, outfits purchased downtown (yes, indeed) and items procured from Amazon; the art of dressing is, after all, knowing how to skilfully mix high and low.

The Diamond Mile kept infield guests satiated with delicious food from a number of chefs including Jacqui Tyson, Gariel Ferguson and Dawn Mitchell. There was also a well-stocked bar complete with top-shelf spirits such as Hennessy, Moët & Chandon and Appleton. There, was, too, a Tru-Juice slushie station (brilliant idea for the hot day) that allowed guests to mix in Rum Fire White Overproof rum or Absolut vodka.

For fans of horse racing and first-time racegoers, the Diamond Mile 2018 was exhilarating from start to finish. The highly anticipated titular race saw fave She's A Maneater breaking loose and galloping off-track. The four-year-old super bay filly took off from the gate and shot across the infield with the fury and determination of a North Dakotan wild mustang, leaving many agog and bewildered. The furore in the stands could have been heard miles away. After the race finally got underway, Will In Charge proved victorious.

The 14-race event with its combined purse of upwards of $29 million proved to be a glorious day. Tuesday Social brings highlights from the M Style XP-styled event.
