Inspector Allison Grant-Johnson displays her Medal of Honour for Gallantry at the National Honours and Awards ceremony at King's House on Monday.

Inspector Grant-Johnson received the award for displaying “extraordinary bravery in confronting gunmen in defence of her family on September 26, 2017 when her daughter was held at gunpoint”, the citation read.

The inspector was at her home in Portmore, St Catherine, with two of her four children when they were attacked by the gunmen, reportedly from nearby Central Village.

Without hesitation, Inspector Grant-Johnson drew her service pistol and engaged the criminals in a shootout, killing one. The other escaped.

When the smoke cleared she discovered that she had a gunshot wound to her upper right arm.

It was later reported that the family was deliberately targeted by the gunmen.
