Bettabest wins music award

Rising reggae singer Bettabest is upbeat following his recent win in the 2017 Akademia Music Award. He won in the category Best Reggae Song for Lover , which was produced by 9ja Guy Production.The Akademia Music Awards is dedicated to recognising excellence in music throughout the world and supporting musicians interested in receiving more market exposure and professional recognition for their work. It was held on April 20 in Los Angeles, California.

“Winning this award is an uplifting feeling and I'm grateful,” Bettabest told Splash.

Originally from Kingston, he has been living in Toronto, Canada, since 1999.

“Music for me has been a roller-coaster ride, but to God be the glory,” he said.

He began doing music professionally following a visit to Ethiopia in 2013. Among his recordings are Every Ghetto Youth, Summer Time, Follow You, What's Love and How Do You Want It.

Bettabest, whose real name is Jermaine Hall, sees himself as a major contributor to reggae music.

“My aim musically is to keep writing and recording music that touch souls in a righteous way, uplift the youths of our future generation, and to spread love and righteousness throughout the world,” he said.
