Mawnin After seals the deal

Friday, August 10, 2018

Dream Weekend hosted its first ever breakfast party, Mawnin After, on Independence Day. The series was celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The yellow-themed event unfolded at Island Lux Beach Park in Negril, the first big event staged on the property since it opened last December. Operations manager Kirk-Patrick Kerr said he was pleased with the partnership.

“Dream is one of the biggest events in Negril so we decided that it would be best if we could get on board to promote this place as well,” he told the Jamaica Observer's weekly Splash. “We are very pleased and happy that Dream decided to take us on.”

The event was also the first of its kind to offer access to the beach, and many patrons kicked off their shoes and wasted no time partying it up in the water. Providing the entertainment were DJs Spin, Jigga and Delano. The latter, who has been integral in the Dream Weekend brand from its days as ATI Dream Weekend, sees the inclusion of the breakfast party on the Dream Weekend line-up as an important milestone.

“It's something different, something innovative, I love it,” DJ Delano told Splash. “It's the first party for the weekend where people go into the sea. Some people were looking at the water like dem fraid so I had to draw people in the water. It's a crazy vibe.”

The DJ booth was also positioned in the sea. Patrons spent the morning dancing to music from dancehall, reggae, hip hop and dance genres.

Later that evening, Tommy Lee Sparta dominated Igloo performing crowd favourites like Psycho, Buss A Blank and Some Bwoy. Even though the event got off to a late start due to heavy showers, the Cayenne Beach venue was still packed with patrons dressed in their jerseys, many of whom walked with their igloos, ice bags and beverages for the night-time rave.
