'Elite', Group 'B' Open League netball semis on today

BY GERALD REID Observer Writer

SEMI-FINAL action in the 'Elite' Group and Group 'B' sections of the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS)/Jamaica Netball association (JNA) Open League competition will get underway today at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 5:45 pm.

The first two semi-finals will be for Group 'B' teams -- Alpha 'A' taking on newcomers Global United and Arnett Gardens 'A' playing Raven 'A', starting at 5:45.

Meanwhile, the semi-finals of the 'Elite' Group are slated to be played between defending champions Jamalco going up against UWI Pelicans 'A', while Tivoli 'A' face Waulgrovians 'A', beginning at 6:45 pm.

Champions Jamalco who won all their matches in the preliminary rounds of the 'Elite' Group are highly fancied to beat Pelicans 'A' in their semi-finals.

A very interesting and exciting match should be between the Sylvester Campbell-coached Tivoli 'A' and the Marvette Anderson-coached Waulgrovians 'A'. Both teams hold victories this season against the other.

Waulgrovians 'A' had beaten Tivoli 'A' 42-39 in the preliminary rounds, but in last Saturday's FASTNET competition, Waulgrovians 'A' defeated Tivoli 'A' 23-15 with Tivoli 'A' turning the table in the semi-finals to win 19-17.

Meanwhile, both Group 'B' semi-finals should also be exciting as Alpha 'A' and Global United are unbeaten coming into this encounter. Arnett Gardens 'A' and Raven 'A' are also unbeaten in all their matches from the preliminary rounds and the quarter-finals.

Both finals are scheduled to be played on Saturday with Group 'B' starting at 4:00 pm, to be followed by the 'Elite' Group at 5:00 pm.
