BARCELONA, Spain - Jamaica will field two contestants in tomorrow’s women’s 400m finals at the 14th IAAF World Junior Championships at the Montjuic Olympic Stadium here, after Olivia James and Chrissann Gordon both qualified from today’s semi-finals.
James, the World Youth Championships bronze medallist, produced a season’s best 52.71 seconds for second in her semi-final heat behind the USA’s Ashley Spencer- 52.24 seconds for an automatic spot.
Gordon, however, had to wait after finishing fourth in her semi-final in 52.70 seconds in what turned out to be the fastest of the three semi-finals.
Gordon’s ability to take her place in Friday’s final is still uncertain, however, after she was taken off the track on a stretcher after she lay down on the track holding her leg.
Meanwhile, Javon Francis ran out of heroics as he finished ninth in the men’s 400m finals in 47.57 seconds after twice lowering his personal best from 47.16 seconds to 46.31 seconds in the first round, then to 46.06 seconds in the semi-finals yesterday.
