3 teams look to join Reno in mid-season final
WHITE HOUSE, Westmoreland — Reno FC's opponent in next week's mid-season final of the Jamaica Football Federation Captain's Bakery and Grill/Charley's JB Rum Western Confederation Super League will be decided this afternoon following the playing of the final round of matches in the first round.
Three teams, last season's mid-season champions Tomorrow's People, former champions Savannah SC and promoted Sandals White House are in contention to join Reno FC, who are on 22 points and cannot be surpassed by two teams.
The clash between second-placed Savannah SC (20 points) and Sandals White House (18 points) could provide the second finalists, but Tomorrow's People are also on 18 points — a much healthier goal difference over Sandals — and will host the dangerous Holland United at Jarrett Park.
In the other games, Boys Club face Village United at the UDC field, Lucea FC and Granville United meet at Rusea's, Duanvale take on Norwood Strikers, while Reno FC oppose Wadadah FC at Frome.
All games are set to start at 3:00 pm.
A win for Savannah would put them into their second mid-season final in three seasons after losing to Wadadah two years ago.
Sandals White House have won five of their last six games, however, and will not be a pushover, as they will be gunning for their first-ever final at this level.
A win for Sandals White House or a draw could open the door for Tomorrow's People to get back to the final after beating Wadadah in last-season's game.
Tomorrow's People have scored a league-high 25 goals, despite being held goalless by Granville United in midweek, being held without a goal for the third time this season.
The Hector Wright-coached team also has a goal-difference of 16 to Sandals White House's four.
Donville Cornwall, the league's joint leading scorer with nine goals tied with Reno's Denmark Gillings, is expected to lead Tomorrow's People against Holland United.
Reno lost at Frome for the first time in two seasons on Sunday when they were the 'away team' against Savannah and will hope to go into the final on a winning note when they take on Wadadah, who are winless in their last two games.
