ARNETT Gardens' chances of securing a berth in the Red Stripe Premier League End-of-Round Final was set back on Sunday when they could only muster a 1-1 draw with Savannah at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex .
Arnett, who started level on points with both Harbour View and Sporting Central, are third on 17 points, two behind Harbour View and one adrift of Boys' Town with two rounds remaining.
The visiting Savannah stunned the hosts against the run of play on the stroke of half-time when Shane Anderson found himself with space outside the box and fired a well-placed grounder past the diving Damion Hyatt.
But Arnett, who were bossing possession, hit back courtesy of a rare Leon Strickland header from a Marcelino Blackburn corner in the 65th minute.
With Savannah sitting deep and counter-attacking, the dominant Arnett had the game in their hands, but poor decision-making and shooting were their demise.
It was a welcome point for Savannah, who were ending a three-game losing streak and are eighth on 11 points. Assistant coach Delroy Delisser said a point away is always welcomed.
"We took the lead and then gave up a goal, but that's how football goes. Tonight it was a very hard-running game and the boys stuck to the task," said Delisser.
For Arnett's Paul Davis, dropping two points at home against what appeared to be a weak Savannah outfit was disappointing.
"It was an easy game. Very, very easy game to win and we made some mistakes again and it cost us. Our players didn't follow the game plan... it was a basic game today," Davis pointed out.
