Boys’ Town book spot in Bell KO final

BOYS' Town booked their spot in the final of the Jamaica Yellow Pages/KSAFA Jackie Bell KO after their 2-0 win over nine-man Harbour View at the Edward Seaga Sport Complex on Sunday.

An extra-time goal from Nicholas McMorris, plus an own-goal three minutes later, saw the Andrew Price-coached team to victory.

Harbour View's Richard Edwards was ejected in the 105th minute for a second yellow card, while home town boy and former Tivoli defender Robert Williams was also red-carded after picking up a second booking.

Boys' Town coach Andrew Price said the hard work they put into improving their fitness for the game paid off.

"We put in a lot of extra work for this game... and the longer the game went on the stronger we got... and once they went down a player it was just a matter of keeping possession," he said.

In a lacklustre first-half, both teams were uninspiring, with the best chance of a goal coming near the half. But Wayne Ellis' shot was deflected over from 12 yards.

After the break, John-Ross Doyley and Fabian Taylor wasted good chances for Harbour View.

WOneil Thompson had a free-kick turned around by Devon Haughton and the latter had to deny a header from McMorris minutes later.

Towards the end, Harbour View had a late flurry and forced Boys' Town into a number of desperate saves and clearances. But after regulation time it was all Boys Town, and it was no surprise when they took the lead via a set piece when the lanky McMorris rose above the defence to head past Devon Haughton.

For a second, many thought the ball had been saved until it was realised that it was an outfield player and not the goalkeeper who had parried the ball onto the crossbar.

And when many thought referee Karl Tyrell would have awarded a penalty, he pointed directly to the centre circle, indicating that the ball had gone over the line.

The Harbour View players were furious and continued to hassle the referee, who handed Edwards his second booking of the evening.

Immediately after that, Thompson's diagonal ball found the unmarked Renae Lloyd, whose deflected shot off Nicholas Beckett gave Devon Haughton no chance.

Harbour View lost another player in the final minutes of the game when Williams picked up a second caution.

However, the Harbour View bench, led by coach Donovan Hayles, insisted Williams was receiving his first yellow and should remain on the field.

After a few minutes, however, he relented and Williams left the playing field. An obviously upset Hayles refused to comment after the game.
