Big wins for Basovak, Old Harbour Bay

BY ANDREW HANCEL Observer writer

Friday, February 10, 2012

DB Basovak, Frazsiers Whip and Rodwood all registered wins in the LIME/St Catherine FA Major League on Wednesday.

Basovak, who are having an indifferent season so far, picking up only three points from their last five games, were most impressive on the day, as they thumped Spanish Town Police, 4-0, at Homestead.

In a game of two halves, the lawmen did enough holding the hosts to a goalless result in the first 45 minutes.

On the resumption, however, Basovak scored twice in eight minutes through Andre Simmonds (68th) and Kirk Newman (76th).

Things then got worse for the visitors near the end as within a minute of each other Simmonds (87th) got his second of the game, while Joseph Herd (88th) added Basovak's fourth for a convincing victory, which moved them back into the top three.

In his first home match since being appointed, Tru Juice coach Milford Thomas tasted defeated, as Rodwood come away from Bybrook 1-0 victors to remain second in the table.

With several home supporters in attendance, a win for Thomas would have been the ideal result. But five minutes into the second half Dale Dixon fired Rodwood in front a lead which they managed to hold onto through to the end.

Having been dethroned of the Happy Sutherland KO crowned on Sunday, Frazsiers returned to their den of dominion, albeit being made to work hard by a gritty Wanderers FC at Red Pond.

In the end, though, Rayon Gordon and his players prevailed 2-1, thanks to a last-gasp strike by Phillip Biggs in the 88th.

Kemar Beckford (35th) recorded his sixth league goal of the season to send the hosts in front, but the lead was short-lived as Roy Dunstan scored five minutes later for Wanderers heading into the break.

Frazsiers pressed for the win on the restart but were kept at bay until Biggs' late strike.

Meantime, in the LIME St Catherine Division One, also played on Wednesday, Old Harbour Bay returned to winning ways with an easy 4-1 over Benbow at Cheesefield and are now second on goal-difference with Upfront, who lead the standings.

Lowan Myers increases his goal tally to seven with a brace in the 40th and 59th between strikes from Devroy Grey (26th) and Jason Grant, who scored in the 80th.

Rachard Dillon grabbed the consolation for the hosts from the penalty spot four minutes from time.

Flamingo's three-game winning streak was ended by Albion, who won 2-0 at the Albion Oval.

The hosts took the lead through a Shamaul Hartley goal in the 38th, while David Morris secured maximum points with a goal in injury time.
