Blades, Molynes start with a bang

BLADES United 'A' and Molynes United 'A' won their opening matches in the 2013 Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL)/Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Major League at the Leila Robinson Courts on Thursday.
Blades 'A', winners of the recent 'B'Group Open League competition, had to fight all the way before getting the better of opponents Friendship in a keenly contested encounter.
Kayan Cousins scored 21 goals from 28 attempts and Flevet Thomas 17 goals from 20 efforts for Blades 'A', while Shin Gonzales scored 22 goals from 29 efforts and Denise Palmer with 15 from 21 tries for Friendship. The quarterly scores for the winners were 12-10, 24-20 (half-time), 29-32, 44-37.
Meanwhile, Molynes 'A' also had to fight off the challenges of Police 'A' in the final quarter after securing a 10-goal lead and looked enroute to a comfortable win, were joined by their opponents at 42-42 before pulling away in the last two minutes to come out winners.
For Molynes 'A', Odette Francis scored 27 goals from 37 attempts and Nicole Brown with 20 goals from 27 efforts. Quarterly scores were 9-11, 23-20 (half-time), 36-27, 47-43.
UWI Pelicans 'B' were the biggest winner, crushing Rivoli United 'A' 62-19. For the winners, Raquell Coleman scored 32 goals from 48 attempts and Shaquine Francis with 29 goals from 49 efforts, while for the losers, Camille Bramwell scored 11 goals from 19 attempts for the losers.
Meanwhile, Jetsetters 'A' defeated Leiba Gardens 41-35 goal. Annette Miller scored 25 goals from 32 attempts and Nicola Brown with 12 goals from 17 efforts, while Nicole Fletcher scored 24 goals from 43 attempts.
Meanwhile, action in both the Major and Minor League competitions will continue tomorrow afternoon. Due to the annual Gibson Relays being held today at the National Stadium, the matches were pushed back to tomorrow afternoon.
Matches scheduled for tomorrow are: Global United 'B' vs Molynes United 'C'; Whitfield Town vs Liguanea United 'B'; Spanish Town Strikers 'A' vs Rollington Town 'B' at 1:45 pm.
In games scheduled for 2:45 pm, Greenwich Town 'A' face OMEGA 'C'; Tantrum go up against Pembroke Hall 'B'; Hagley 'B' face Braeton, while De La Vega and Progressive Strikers will cross swords.
