Head coach Vin Blaine thinks Jamaica's Under-17 Reggae Girlz had a "favourable" draw in the CONCACAF lottery to determine group placings at the World Cup qualifying tournament set for Guatemala City from May 2-12
At the draw staged at CONCACAF's Miami offices on Sunday, Jamaica have been picked for Group A where they will face host Guatemala, Canada and Panama.
Group B will consist of the USA, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and the Bahamas.
"I think the draw is a favourable one... looking at it, I think if our preparation goes well we are in with a chance of qualifying.
"As usual we know nothing of the teams, however, I will see how best I can get some information regarding them," said Blaine, in responding to the draw results yesterday.
To maintain fitness, the Under-17s having been camping with the more senior Under-20s since their CFU finals in the Dominican Republic in November last year.
In an effort to strengthen the Under-17 ranks, Blaine has commenced looking beyond the shores of Jamaica for new talent.
"I am scouting players from overseas to enhance the squad. I will definitely be seeking an overseas camp before departure," said Blaine, who doubles as head coach of the Under-20s.
"We are at present looking at the composition of the squad, with an aim to strengthen in all areas of the field," added the technical co-ordinator of the national women's programme.
The finalists and winner of the third-place match qualify for the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan, from September 22 to October 13.
Jamaica's Under-20 Girlz kickstart their CONCACAF Championship on March 1, in Panama City.
