THE Robert K Thomas pervasive imported horse Blast Them Away has won his last three Grade One races on the trot.

He, however, looks to have his work well cut out with the big weight to repeat the effort when he faces a very strong field of lightweight rivals in the 16th running of the Eros Trophy Grade One feature at Caymanas Park today.

Jam-packed with lively speed the Graded Stakes, three-year-old upward call is the highlight of a competitive 10-race card going 1,400 metres for a purse of $1,050,000 and has attracted a decent field of seven.

The Eros highlighter is scheduled to go to post at approximately 4:30 pm with first post at 12:15 pm.

Blast Them Away, facing the starter without his favourite rider in Dane Nelson and stable jockey Dick Cardenas, gives the impression, probably mistakenly, that trainer Wayne DaCosta does want to burden the country's premier sprinter with the big weight against some slick lightweights, including his own Double The Honey and especially Classy Prospect who has won going 1,400 metres in a decent time of 1:26 flat carrying 56.0kg with imported horses Reasonable Press and El Poderoso trailing in that order.

After faltering over today's distance in the Gold Cup in December of last year, he returns to the race for his seven-year season with only a feather with the little used stable claiming apprentice Holando Butler in the irons.

His presence with this rider could only mean one of two things. He is either here for a blowout or with 1.0kg he is going to the front and stay there until the wire arrives. This is not an impossible feat for this highly respected campaigner but who needs strong handling to get there on time.

In the absence of the foregoing, the race could turn into a relay among the five stable companions that also include Double The Honey, Exotic Gold and the lesser light Deo Valente who runs well whenever this light.
