Bolt near to 2 million fans on Facebook
...adding close to 2,400 fans a day
Saturday, July 17, 2010
JAMAICA'S running sensation Usain Bolt is about to approach the two million number of fans on Facebook. www.facebook.com/usainbolt.
The track star, who has only competed in four Diamond League events so far, is just over 40,000 fans from the two million mark. The last figure reported on his Facebook page at the end of April, showed his registering 1,777,153 and is now at 1,958,197 (as of July 15). After only 76 days since the last check and four major events, missing New York Grand Prix, he is recording an average of adding 2,383 fans a day.
Bolt is still the number one track athlete on the social media site. He is still ahead of Tiger Woods reporting over 1.4 million; but way behind Lebron James with 2.69 million and Lionel Messi 3.73 million.
Bolt has been featured in many international magazines, including Running World, Sports Illustrated, GQ, Times, Esquire, L'equipe and Track and Field News, is now one of the most popular sports stars on the social networking site Facebook.
Usain thinks this is "fantastic news for him, but more so for the sport of track and field. I think it is cool, especially during the World Cup of football which just ended. I am always excited that I am able to generate positive news around the sport."
Bolt's on-the-track exploits will see him closing out the season close to the end of August, after which he will stop in London to officially launch his first book - 9.58 My Story. The book is scheduled to hit the shelves early in September and is being published by Harper Collins, UK. Harper Collins has produced books for a number of sports stars, including Andre Agassi, David Beckham and Lewis Hamilton.
