Boys' Town add to Portmore's woes
Boys’ Town 1 McMorris (69th) Portmore 0
PORTMORE United, the 2012 champions, failed once more in consecutive attempts to lift themselves from off the foot of the standings of the Red Stripe Premier League table with only six points, going down 0-1 to Boys' Town at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.
Boys' Town, who are enjoying fair form of late move to sixth place on 13 points, eked out the narrow win through defender Nicholas McMorris who scored from a free kick just outside the area in the 69th minute.
As they did against Arnett Gardens in their previous game, Portmore dominated the first half, but failed to take advantage of their scoring chances. They then paid the price with defeat by not being as forthright in the second-half when a fit-looking Boys' Town came at them.
It is a victory that gladdened the hearts of the Collie Smith Drive outfit after going down to neighbours Arnett Gardens 3-2 last weeek Sunday.
It is always important to get three points at home but it was hard work today. I would not say that it was easy to get us this victory," a relieved Boys' Town coach, Andrew Price, said.
"The team was told that they must continue to work hard if we are to progress up the table. They responded to the call and we battled gamely and came away with three points. It was a grand effort by Nicholas McMorris to give us the winning goal, which we defended stout-heartedly," Price added.
Calvin Lewis, with shoulders drooped, admitted that it was "a disappointing result in a game we dominated for long periods".
"We created so many goalscoring chances today and to leave the grounds empty-handed it shows that we have a great deal of work to do to get ourselves out of this rut," he said.
