Boys' Town hold Arnett in Trench Town derby

BY SANJAY MYERS Observer staff reporter

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Arnett Gardens held on for a 1-1 draw with Trench Town rivals Boys' Town in Sunday's Digicel Premier League clash at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Substitute Shane Edwards scored the equaliser for the visitors in the 73rd minute after Arnett took the lead through William Richards in the third minute of play. The Red Brigade remain in fifth place on 41 points, while Arnett continue to flirt with relegation as they dropped to ninth on 34 points.

Coach of Arnett, Wayne Fairclough, said his team should have taken maximum points to distance themselves from relegation threat.

"A draw is good, but not good enough. I think we should have won this game and we would have been in sixth or seventh position. Defensively we lost our concentration in the last 15 minutes or thereabouts, plus we got a lot of chances and we squandered them and if we had taken those we would have won," he told the Observer.

Obviously the happier of the two coaches, Boys' Town's Andrew Price stated that the second half substitutions swung the match back in favour of the visitors. "The changes that we made in the second half made a difference to the game and as a result we were able to get the equaliser.

"Coming into a hostile environment for a Trench Town derby it's always good to leave with a point and I'm very happy we at least got a point. We just have to continue accumulating points and it's another point which keeps us in touch," he said.
