LAST season's runner-up Boys' Town opened their account on a winning note by blanking topflight rusty Cavalier 2-0 at Collie Smith Drive on yesterday's first day of action in 2012/13 Red Stripe Premier League.
Rafiek Thomas scored the opening goal with 17 minutes on the clock, while Fabian Francis got the second in the 85th minute.
Cavalier, who were make their return to the country's top league after 17 years, seemed to be running on fresher legs and gave hints that they possess the quality to perform at this level.
Nevertheless, coach Lamar Morgan, was not satisfied with the overall play and cited that there ought to be improvement for their next outing.
His team could have got a goal in the 65th minute, but failed to capitalise on a fumbled pass into the area, ending with the ball narrowly missing the target.
A few minutes later, Boys' Town had a turn at scoring, but Marvin Morgan's shot crashed onto the crossbar.
Finally in the 85th minute, Francis beat goalkeeper David Mitchell with an 18-yard strike that went into the left corner to seal the deal.
While still bemoaning his team's failure to convert consistently, coach Andrew Price did not seem too disappointed with the earning three points to get his season off on a positive note.
"At no time I think they we were troubled and I think it was a controlled game. I'm a little upset that we didn't convert more chances, (but) players are going to be a little bit nervous playing in front of their home crowd for the first time. All in all we got three points; it was a good game to start the season," he said.
