MONTEGO BAY, St James — The 2012 Burger King Reggae Marathon Grand Prix Championships will get underway this afternoon with the Montego Bay 7K run/walk, set to get underway at 3:30 pm.

Alfred Francis, race co-ordinator told the Jamaica Observer yesterday they were expecting about 600 runners, led by overall defending champions Shawn Pitter and Marlena Eubanks.

Three events will be held as the Burger King Portmore 10k is set for November 11 and the Reggae Marathon, half-marathon and 10K run/walk will be held on December 1 in Negril.

Today, Francis said the top high school teams have already signalled their interest, including Edwin Allen High, Holmwood Technical, St Jago High and St Elizabeth Technical will battle for the sectional prizes.
