CBS news makes Fraser Pryce blunder
Sunday, August 05, 2012 | 6:59 AM
KINGSTON, Jamaica — American cable news station CBS, while broadcasting it's CBS 2 morning news programme, stirred anger from many Jamaican track and field supporters when it ran an on-screen ticker displaying 100m Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce as being American.
The ticker was in a series of news updates which included "American Micheal Phelps wins 22 medals" then to the shock of Jamaican viewers
overseas the next ticker update read "American Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce wins double Olympic Gold"
Monica Pinnock, a viewer in New York said she was in total shock as she could not believe that such a grave mistake could have been made.
It was not clear whether it was a technical error or if the news station actually thought Fraser-Pryce was an American as Pinnock said her efforts to contact CBS news were unsuccessful.
