FORMER champions Clarendon College became the 21st school to qualify for the Inter-zone round of the daCosta Cup schoolboy competition after beating Edwin Allen, 3-1, in a rescheduled Zone H game in Chapleton yesterday.
The win, Clarendon’s fifth of the season in seven games, took them atop the group with 17 points with one game to go tomorrow, two more than Lennon.
In another rescheduled game, Manchester High edged Mile Gully, 1-0, in Mandeville to assume the lead in Zone F in the race for the Ben Francis KO spot ahead of Bellefield. Delroy Miller scored in the 11th minute as Manchester moved to 17 points.
BB Coke scored their first win of the season in their final game, beating Cross Keys 5-1 in another Zone F game.
The first round ends tomorrow when the 32 Interzone and 15 Ben Francis KO spots are expected to be finalised. So far, four schools have confirmed their places in the KO which kicks off on Wednesday.
William Knibb, Spalding, Cedric Titus and St Mary Tech have secured their KO spots while another 16 teams have qualified for the Inter-zone.
The schools through to the Inter-zone are Cornwall, St James, Frome, Rusea’s, Grange Hill, STETHS, Munro, Manchester, Bellefield, Bog Walk, Dinthill, Port Antonio, Garvey Maceo, Glenmuir, Paul Bogle and Seaforth.
