Cabinet names boards for state-run sporting bodies

The Cabinet has appointed new boards of management for the Sports Development Foundation (SDF), Independence Park Limited (IPL) and the Institute of Sports (INSPORTS).

The SDF will be chaired by Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) boss Dr Warren Blake and includes Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) president Michael Fennell, International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA) head Molly Rhone, 1996 Olympics 400m hurdles gold medallist Deon Hemmings-McCatty, Compton Rodney, executive business development manager at Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) Emile Spence and Elizabeth Thompson.

A representative of the Jamaica Football Federation and Jamaica Defence Force are also expected to be nominated to the board.

Fennell will chair the board of IPL which also includes Rhone as well as West Indies Players Association (WIPA) director and former IPL general manager Michael Hall, Sandra Shirley, chief medical officer Dr Marion Bullock DuCasse, Major Dillon Lobban, Leon Mitchell, Gregory Hamilton and Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis.

INSPORTS is to be chaired by vice-president of the JOA Donald Anderson and includes LIME Foundation chairman Errol Miller, Reverend Devon Dick, Kamal Powell, Vennisha Phillips, former FIFA referee Peter Prendergast, Dennis Clarke, Duen Oliver Daley, Denzil Wilks, Lt Colonel Jaimie O'Gilvie, Carole Barnaby and the executive director of the Social Development Commission.
