Clennon strikes for W'House against RSPL champs

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

WATERHOUSE shocked Red Stripe Premier League champions Portmore United, 1-0, at Drewsland on Sunday to register their first win of the second round.

Skipper Andre Clennon delivered the lethal blow in the final minutes of the game, just before the St Catherine-based club was fully roused.

Waterhouse moved up one place to sixth on 20 points, ahead of Montego Bay United and Sporting Central, in that order, who are also on 20 points. Waterhouse were coming off two earlier drawn games in the round.

Despite the loss, Portmore remain second on 23 points, ahead of Boys Town, who also lost and remain on 23 points and third overall, ahead of Cavaliers (22). Arnett Gardens are fifth on 21 points.

The defeat was the second in a row for the Andre Waugh-coached Portmore, and he was not amused by the result.

"We did everything we could but scored. We played well within our capability and well enough to have left the ground with a point at the very least, but the ball just did not roll for us on the day," he rued.

Waterhouse coach Donavan Duckie said it was a good game played at a fast pace where Portmore, a quality team, was well organised and played well enough to leave the ground with a better result.
