Cousins strikes again in Swedish Division One
Wednesday, October 17, 2012
RICARDO Cousins netted his fourth goal from six matches Monday for FC Väsby United to whip Enkröping SK, 5-1, in Swedish Division One football at Enavallen.
The 25-year-old Cousins, who previously played for Portmore United, scored in the 85th minute to improve his conversion rate to a goal every 122 minutes.
Sunday Abohwo opened the scoring for Väsby in the fourth minute before Erik Andersson equalised for Enkröping five minutes later for his fifth goal of the season.
Five minutes into the second half Jesper Carlsson struck and added his second of the match in the 71st as Väsby, in 11th place of the 14-team league, increased their advantage to 3-1.
Second-half substitute Sunday Bale sent the Swedish third-tier football team further ahead in the 73rd before the former Glenmuir High star wrapped up the match five minutes to the end.
Starting in five of six matches, once as a substitute, Cousins has given the 2011 runners-up the filip they need to avoid relegation with just two more matches remaining.
Väsby United will next play 12th place Syrianska IF next Monday and their final match on Sunday, October 28th against 10th place IFK Luleå.
Losing almost their entire 2011 squad to other Swedish clubs, Väsby have turned to Cousins and compatriot, goalkeeper Ryan Thompson, to boost their attack and defence.
A member of Portmore United’s winning National Premier League team in the 2011-12 season, Cousins has been employed as an attacking midfielder at his Swedish outfit.
The new season of the Swedish Division I normally begins on the second weekend of April.
