Dominica picks Shillingford for T20 tourney

Thursday, August 09, 2012

ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC) — West Indies off-spinner Shane Shillingford is one of 13 players named to represent Dominica in the upcoming Windward Islands WINLOTTO T20 cricket competition scheduled for St Lucia later this month.

The right arm off-break bowler is expected to be a key part of Dominica's bowling arsenal following a successful return to international cricket after remedial work to correct an illegal bowling action.

Earlier this year, Shillingford created history by becoming the first Dominican to play a Test match on home soil and in that match against Australia in Roseau ended with an impressive 10-wicket haul.

The squad, led by Liam Sebastien, is an experience unit that features players who have all represented the island at the senior level.

Ezra Green, who has been out of the national team in recent years due to studies, is back in the line-up.

Also included is the former Windward Islands middle order batsman, Kirsten Casimir, who was not selected last year because of poor form.

The team will be coached by Mervin Thomas and managed by Herbert Sabaroache.

SQUAD — Liam Sebastien, Shane Shillingford, Tyron Theophille, Ezra Green, Kevin James, Martin Matthew, Samuel Mitchel, Junior Jervier, Kirsten Casimir, Ray Casimir, Vincent Lewis, Oscar George and Elton Mark. Reserves -- Josiah Cornelius Joel Mingo, Vivian Titre and Anderson Burton.
