The Everyone’s a Winner/The Best Dressed Chicken Race series has donated some $750,000 worth of equipment to the Diabetes Association of Jamaica from proceeds from last year’s staging of the event.

The donated equipment include three heavy duty wheelchairs; two laptops; one printer/scanner; one BMI scale; three blood pressure monitors; three cholesterol measuring machines; and an ECG machine.

The 2017 staging of the two-part Everyone’s a Winner/The Best Dressed Chicken Race Series will be managed by Running Events Limited and held at the Hope Botanical Gardens on Sunday, April 30 with 9K run and 5K walk, run and stroller categories, and on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18, with 10K run and 5K walk, run and stroller categories.

In announcing details of the race series at a launch event on Wednesday at the Tree House, Hope Zoo, Alfred "Frano" Francis, race director at Running Events, said the race series is a premium boutique experience for the entire family, with such unique post-race features as free breakfast and snacks by The Best Dressed Chicken for participants, as well as samplings from other partners.

In addition, there will be a misting station and post-race massages by Bella Oasis Day Spa, as well as health checks by the Heart Foundation of Jamaica, together with awards and entertainment.

Francis said another unique element of the two-part race is that The Best Dressed Chicken will be working closely with nutritionists to provide specially prepared post-race meals for diabetics who take part in the event.

However, he appealed to that category of participants to indicate that they are ‘Diabetic’ in the medical conditions field, or check the ‘Diabetic’ box on the manual entry form. The Diabetes Association of Jamaica is the charity partner of the 2017 series. In addition, The Best Dressed Chicken marketing team will be working with the Diabetes Association to register as many diabetics as possible for both races.

"Registration is limited to the first 2,000 entrants, all of whom will received a medal at each event. As was the case last year, the special commemorative medal is split in two — half of which will be presented at the end of the first race on April 30 and the other half at the special Father’s Day edition on June 18," said Francis.

He also noted that parents and caregivers will receive a special Stroller Award for their participation in the 5K stroller race. Overall winners in the children’s category will receive complimentary passes to visit the Hope Zoo.

At the launch event, special awards were presented to the largest running groups from the 2016 series. They were Advanced Integrated Systems; Bank of Jamaica; and TrainFit Running Club.
